Recently, I got a question from one of my students. It stated, "What exactly is pot odds and is Hold’em pot odds system worth pursuing?"

One thing to remember, any kind of Hold’em odds can and usually do have very confusing. However, let me break pot probabilities down in really straightforward terms. Please note that we are only discussing Pot Odds. Not outs, implied probabilities, basic odds or anything else like that.

In short, pot probabilities are the probabilities you obtain when determining the ratio of the quantity of money in the pot to the quantity of money it’s going to cost you to call the wager.

For instance, let us say you are heads up with Player A. If there’s one hundred and fifty dollars in the pot following the flop and Gambler A places a twenty dollars wager it’s going to charge you only thirteen per-cent of the pot to stay in the hand. If your likelihood of winning is greater than thirteen per-cent it’s a no-brainer to call because you’d have beneficial pot odds.

That’s all there would be to it genuinely. Texas hold’em pot probabilities boils down to one point. If your chance of winning is better than the ratio of the pot size to the bet then you might have great pot probabilities. If it is lower than you could have bad pot probabilities.

One much more thought about Texas hold’em pot probabilities. You’re still playing the gambler far more so than anything else. Bet on the player additional than your starting hands or the size of the chip stack and even, yes the pot odds.

If it is possible to understand to read your opponents well you can utilize pot probabilities to aid justify or solidify your choice. But Texas holdem pot odds don’t have to be an end all whenever you generate a poker determination.
