The Background of Poker Chips
by Cheyenne on October 9th, 2013
Casino chips have been manufactured from a varied range of materials in an almost infinite selection of styles since the birth of wagering and the need to keep track of winnings. The most common materials used at present in the manufacture of current poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the original of the group, have been made in America since the late 19th century.
Back in the 19th century, poker players seemed to use any tiny item with value you can imagine. Early poker players occasionally employed jagged gold pieces along with chips – chiefly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip features started to employ a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with ridges to keep them neatly arranged with each other.
There is no doubt that poker has increased constantly in acceptance ever since its beginnings in the 19th century. With the explosive advancement of online gambling and unique television shows, community appeal in poker has accelerated faster than ever before. Many people are initially introduced to poker by TV showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will compete in their 1st hands online. Regardless of web poker’s rise, not much replaces the feeling of holding heavy poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the center of a casino table, or stacking high pilesstacks of chips after displaying a victorious hand.
