Howard Lederer lived in a family of five where he enjoyed playing numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were tough as he would play extensive hours and fail to win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more rest and concentrate more on the game.

The actual improvement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly wager against one another. He was able to access a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would tweak his logical thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer relocated to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the successive decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
