NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
