Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Cheyenne on October 20th, 2016

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
