Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Cheyenne on February 10th, 2017

Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
