Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi-low starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, following a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play with ease.
