In Advance of a Tilt

Ah, the tilt. If a poker gambler claims never to have stared faced down the barrel of a looming poker tilt – they are either telling a lie or they haven’t been competing very long. This does not infer obviously that everyone has been on tilt in the past, a handful of people have great willpower and carry their losses as a hit and leave it at that. To be a strong poker gambler, it is especially crucial to approach your wins and your defeats in a similar way – with no emotion. You participate in the match in the same manner you did after taking a tough beat as you would after winning a great hand. Most of the poker masters are not tempted by tilting following an awful beat as they are highly professional and you really should be to.

You must understand that you won’t win each hand you are in, regardless if you are the strongest player. Hands which typically cause players to go on tilt are hands that you were the favored or at least believed you were until you were side swiped and you squandered a huge chunk of your bankroll. Bad defeats are going to happen. Accept that fact right now, I’ll say it once again – if your siblings enjoy cards, if your parents enjoy cards, if your grandma plays cards – They have all had poor defeats at some point. It’s an inevitable effect of competing in Hold’em, or really any type of poker.

After all we are assumingly (nearly all of us) playing poker for a single reason – to earn $$$$, it certainly makes sense that we would wager accordingly to maximize profits. Now let’s say you are up one hundred dollars off of a $100 deposit, and you take a gigantic hit in a No Limits game and your bankroll is at $120. You have squandered eighty dollars in a hand where you should have picked up $200two hundred dollars when you went all-in on the flop and held a 10 – 1 advantage. And that amateur! He bled you dry on the river? – Well stop right there. This is a classic opportunity for a fresh player to start tilting. They just blew too much cash on one round that they really should have won and they are pissed
