Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Cheyenne on November 11th, 2017

Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While competing in web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
