Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
