Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he enjoyed participating in different card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he played countless hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He judged he might better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus attention more on the game.

The definite advancement in his game happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would often compete against one another. Howard was able to access a few of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit hold’em.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. He relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
