Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players can get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same approach in just about every poker game.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at first, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming collection of betting possibilities and because you have several players trying for the high, and several shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha hi low.
