Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of betting possibilities and seeing that you have many players shooting for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low hand.
