by Cheyenne on March 20th, 2022
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
