Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Cheyenne on April 12th, 2022

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
