Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
