Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in just about every poker game.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

While it seems complex at first, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play simply enough.
